Russia wants to liberate Donbas from Ukrainian forces responsible for ethnic cleansing that slaughtered thousands of Russians. Achieving that by May 9 - WW II Victory Day - seems to be the goal.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions, a fight between brothers, one of whom, the so-called Ukraine, betrayed the other and brought a strong enemy to his brother's house, and he himself serves this enemy and longs to destroy his brother.
