Even though well aware of Kiev's glorification of Nazi butchers and its current terrorist activities, Congress still voted for $61 billion to support Zelensky's despotic regime.
Well written. Excellent insights. And between the lines, evidence of hard won wisdom. Americans grew up being told human rights mattered. Freedom, liberty, and self-determination were core values. The day you realize that the US started supporting actual Nazis and people that thought like them even before World War II was over is a hard day. Operation Paperclip is bad. CIA support for LtGen Gehlen and hundreds of other Nazis is worse. Project Icon, Project Aerodynamic, and QRPLUMB are worse. Understanding the US protected, trained, and paid the people who carried out 1/4 of the Holocaust is worse. Understanding who Azov, Adair, Right Sector, White Sich, etc are and how the US supported them is worse. Seeing things like the 29 August 2005 treaty establishing biological weapons storage and research labs on the State Department website and DoD funding for these facilities is found in GSA contracts on the GSA website at the same time the US denies their existance is worse.
Thank you for the comment. And good points on those details you listed. The question that continues to vex me is: Where do we, as Americans, go from here? We grew up with the notion that we are the 'good guys', and that meant a lot to us. It was an integral part of our national identity. We certainly aren't the 'good guys' now and won't be able to claim that title any time soon.
Excellent question. I don't have a good answer. You are already doing the most important thing - telling the truth, bearing witness. Things will get worse before they get better. Times are grim indeed.
I saw John's article posted on The Duran today. Seraphim Hanisch posted it with his added comments. He encouraged readers to send it out to more folks.
People need to hear this truth! Being complacent, uncaring, and ignorant does not cut it anymore...people must realize that our nation is not what the msm feeds the masses. The government no longer honors the Constitution!
So much corruption in Ukraine. I have followed the goings on in Eastern Ukraine and am amazed at how much they have gone through, it's heartbreaking that the world barely knows the history.

"Why is this lesson so difficult for our ruling class to comprehend?" Because, as you point out at the beginning, they never grew out of the mentality of a 10-year-old. I mean, that flag-waving is evidence enough and the rhetoric is no more mature, either. To me it's an insult on human intelligence but sadly, the intended audience has the same mental age as those delivering the rhetoric. I've been wondering if we humans were always this stupid or we've somehow conquered a new low in this respect.

Omigosh John! Another very well written piece….both an excellent summary of the current situation and a nice bow to history.
You are good. Wish this could be in mainstream media. As a lark, try sending it to NYT or WaP. Bravo!

Thank you for informing me. I wasn't aware that it was on The Duran.
Sadly, I feel like we live in Zombieland.
Thank you, Carol. Much appreciated. Thanks for the suggestion. I will sent this to the NYT Op-ed page. Let's see if any reaction. ;)

Everyone, especially Americans, should read Michael Parenti and listen to his many interesting lectures (they can be found on YouTube).
