Open letter to: Dmitry Muratov, Editor-in-Chief of Novaya Gazeta, and laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize
Dear Mr Muratov,
Congratulations on your well-earned Nobel Peace Prize from the Norwegian committee. I hope this sends a strong message to tyrants everywhere who fear truth and the free flow of information. Whether it’s Russia, the UK, Norway, or the United States, state censorship and other means of media repression are growing and strangling the free press. And without the free flow of information, citizens cannot make informed decisions. This endangers the foundation of our entire civilization.
Independent journalists in the West need your help. Please do not forget us. Please use the Nobel platform to take a stand for media freedom not just in Russia, but also in Europe and the USA. The situation is dire and we face unprecedented censorship and state repression.
I lived in Russia and know Novaya Gazeta. Even though Russia is authoritarian, the fact remains that Novaya hasn’t been shut down and continues to thrive, able to win a Nobel Prize, despite its conflicts with the ruling elite.
If NG existed in the USA you’d be harassed by state-allied media corporations. If you tried to tackle corruption and human rights abuses, or if you wrote critically about Big Pharma, your fearless investigative articles would be condemned as “conspiracy theories”. Eventually you’d be deplatformed from social media by Big Tech, which is closely allied with our ruling Party in Washington.
In the USA, you’d face all sorts of overt and subtle forms of repression from an unholy alliance of state bureaucrats, Big Tech billionaire oligarchs, fake ‘fact-checkers’, as well as ‘social justice’ NGOs, who’d act in unison to discredit you and to destroy your reputation and your career, driving you to desperation and financial ruin. In short, NG wouldn’t last long in the West.
That’s not all. The chances of physical assault are real, for example, if you tried to investigate violent groups, such as the radical left-wing “Antifa” and the Marxist “Black Lives Matter”. Both have close ties to the ruling Party in Washington and often do its bidding.
We don't have anything even remotely like Novaya Gazeta in the USA. We don’t have any hard-hitting magazines devoted solely to investigative reporting, and which can openly investigate and challenge the ruling political and corporate elite.
Oh, just forget the Washington Post and New York Times. These two newspapers are owned by and serve the interests of the oligarchs that control the ruling Party. And if by some chance they do an investigative report then it’s going to be a ‘hit piece’ against political and social opponents.
Check the pages of NYT and WaPo — can you find any serious investigative reports about Obama, Clinton or Biden, and their allies? Of course not. It’s unthinkable. In fact, these liberal media did everything possible to suppress information about Hunter Biden’s corruption and illegal business deals on behalf of his father. Not to mention they did their best to protect Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama when those two Democratic Party politicians found themselves mired in many scandals.
And shall we talk about the fraudulent presidential election in the USA last November….? Our liberal media (which is 95% of our major media) has assumed the role of the secret police and has spent enormous amounts of energy and resources to suppress and discredit those brave souls who are investigating the massive election fraud that took place. (Again, they are derided as “conspiracy theorists”).
Please find the time to learn more about what’s happening with the media in Europe and the USA. Please take a stand for freedom of the press in the West. Please…
Moving on to another topic related to the Nobel Peace Prize… it’s worth pointing out what’s really happening in Norway. You see, the country’s people are dear to my heart. I am also director of a small NGO — Norwegian Children’s Rights Watch.
Do you know that Norway is considered by human rights activists as the single worst violator of children’s rights in the European Union? In fact, Norway faces the largest number of child abuse cases at the European Court of Human Rights in Strausbourg.
The government in Oslo sponsors a horrifying racist/fascist regime that abducts children from the families of immigrants, even Americans who moved to Norway, as well as poor Norwegians. Under the guise of “child protection”, the state makes child abuse accusations against decent parents and their child is then savagely ripped from home by police.
I’ve been to Norway to research this situation, together with Bonanza Media, to speak to victims, as well as the state bureaucrats responsible for these crimes. For more detailed information about Norway’s atrocious human rights record, please read Steven Bennett’s book: “Stolen Childhood: The truth about Norway's child welfare system”. Steven details the Norwegian nightmare, which has persisted for so long, because, (yes, you guessed it) the Norwegian media is tightly controlled by the State.
You see how you can make a difference — Please use your new-found power and the Nobel platform to speak up and speak out against Norway. I spent many months trying to convince major American media to investigate and report on state-sponsored child trafficking in Norway, but none were interested in what is a great story for an investigative journalist. Norway, however, has strategically used its vast oil and gas profits to buy media silence and the loyalty of allied governments.
Lastly, let’s take a closer look at just how peaceful Norway is. Do you know that Norwegian troops faithfully served the Nazi war machine, often with great enthusiasm. Sure, we know the truth about the brutal Soviet regime, but the fact is that Norwegian soldiers gleefully massacred Soviet citizens, 1941-45, for example, taking part in the Siege of Leningrad. And Oslo has never apologized for these crimes.
Could you please bring up this matter when you speak to the Nobel Peace Prize committee? Can you ask Norway to issue such an apology and to make the necessary reparations. After all, historical justice is very fashionable today in the West.
I suspect that the Norwegians are playing you as a pawn in their ancient conflict with Moscow. Please don’t let them. Turn the tables. Show them just how independent and fierce you can be. Show them the ferocious and tenacious bite of true independent journalism. And in doing so you’ll go down in history as one of the greatest defenders of media freedom in the world.
Great article! Free media of all countries unite to tell us the truth!
