U.S. accused of supporting terror attack on Russian children's event
Moscow accuses the UK and U.S. of helping Kiev to execute today's brutal attack on a family holiday event in Belgorod. So far, 14 killed and over 100 injured. Russia promises retribution. But will it?
Today afternoon in western Russia, (early morning in New York), Ukrainian militants armed with NATO weapons, and with access to NATO satellite intelligence, fired internationally banned cluster munitions at the city center of Belgorod, which is about 20 miles from the Ukrainian border. At that time, families had gathered for holiday festivities. The Russian government reports that 14 civilians have been killed and about 110 injured.
Moscow has accused the UK and U.S. of involvement, and called for the matter to be discussed at the UN Security Council. This brutal terrorist attack is only one of dozens carried out with UK and U.S. support over the past 18 months. The most notorious is when Joe Biden ordered the destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea in late September 2022, and which is considered one of history’s worst environmental and economic crimes.
The Belgorod tragedy has shaken Russia and the (civilized) global community. Western media, however, are downplaying and justifying the brutal terrorist attack, and try to shift the blame to Moscow.
This despicable terrorist attack, however, is not a one-off event. The sad reality is that NATO-trained Ukrainian militants often carry out bombings, assassinations and sabotage across Russia.
We have to be very clear about the origins of this war, and who is to blame. There can be no foolish talk of “well, both sides are to blame”. Since spring 2014, NATO has supported the nationalist regime in Kiev in its ethnic cleansing of the Donbass region. Since that time, at least 5 million Ukrainian citizens (ethnic Russians) have fled the brutality of the pro-NATO regime in Kiev. Many thousands of Russian civilians have been killed and tens of thousands injured.
In spring 2014, Ukrainian forces began bombing and shooting peaceful protestors in the Donbass, as well as the massacre in Odessa on May 2 (2014) that left 50 ethnic Russians dead. Those victims had been protesting the illegal violent insurrection in Kiev known as Maidan (February 2014) that was coordinated by NATO countries.
Just look at how one of Ukraine’s most popular commentators, Dmitri Gordon, celebrates the bloody Belgorod attack. (image above). The photo shows people taking cover. Gordon’s mocking caption reads “Happy New Year, bitches.”
The main question now is - How will Moscow respond? Will it pulverize Ukraine like Israel is pulverizing Gaza?
International law is very clear that any country attacked by terrorists has the right to strike at those terrorists and their infrastructure, (but not target civilians). Yes, Moscow has a legal right to neutralize any military facility in any NATO country that supports the regime in Kiev, which on a daily basis conducts terrorist attacks against Russian citizens. NATO regimes are very well aware of this, but yet they continue to recklessly provoke Russia.
Let’s look at the situation another way — how would the U.S. react if Mexico bombed cities in Arizona, (which, by the way, was once part of Mexico until the U.S. stole the land in the 1840s). Of course, Mexico would be quickly bombed, brought to its knees and a puppet regime installed in the capital.
Moscow has promised retribution for today’s attacks. But how to respond so as not to provoke a wider war in Europe? The Kremlin wants to avoid such a war. President Vladimir Putin is playing a long-game, a clever chess game of sorts, and time is on his side as the West sinks deeper into financial, economic, political and social chaos.
But what would happen if Moscow conducted a strike on a NATO logistics center that supports terrorism? I think we’d see the alliance quickly paralyzed. Sure, the U.S. and UK would howl and scream, but nothing more. Meanwhile, the rest of the alliance would be crapping in its pants and demand that the U.S. make peace with Russia.
Peace through strength. Never appease terrorism.
Russia doesn’t need to bomb any NATO facilities, they don’t even need to bomb Kiev again.
A few well executed assassinations of western intelligence assets as well as a few highly placed Ukrainian military and political leaders will be a sufficient response.
Maybe a few Ukrainian oligarchs getting sunk with their yachts will be sufficient incentive to remind the western backers of Ukraine they’re not impervious or out of reach of Russian retaliation.
Perhaps the biggest mistake the West has made -- and continues to make -- with regard to Russia is mistaking patience and restraint for weakness. It is baffling to me they keep refusing to see things for what they are and insist on their fantasy vision, which has resulted in so much tragedy already.
