Clash of Empires: What's Really Happening in Ukraine?
Experience proves that we can't believe what the American media says. It fabricates and misleads on almost everything. Why would Ukraine be any different?
Ukraine is bleeding, and needs our help. At the very least, we need to tell the truth. The world is again drowning in lies and propaganda. Once again, the media has simplified a very complex issue and reduced it to a highly emotional one, whipping up mass hysteria and outrage to further a nefarious agenda.
So, as always, let’s talk facts, and only facts.
Ukraine is bleeding, and the war must stop immediately. The immense tragedy of this war is compounded by the fact that it was easily avoidable and it can end today. NATO must stop all expansion into Ukraine. Full stop.
What’s the root cause? The U.S. and NATO are trying to absorb Ukraine into their sphere of influence. They’ve had their eye on the country for at least 15 years, and since 2014 they’ve been turning that East European country, (about the size of Texas) into a highly militarized ally.
Since Ukraine is on Russia’s southwestern border, it views NATO expansion as an existential threat. No matter what you think about Vladimir Putin, the fact is that Ukraine is in Russia’s traditional sphere of influence, and NATO’s grab is a red line that the Kremlin has long warned not to cross.
Sorry, but the “Great Powers paradigm” has not been abolished and never will be. Large empires will always seek to control smaller nations along their border. That’s how the world works.
How to solve this crisis? Ukraine must act wisely — be like Finland, become independent, and become a buffer zone between the Atlantic Empire on one side (NATO/EU), and the Eurasian Empire (Russia) on the other.
Over the years, whenever I mentioned the “Finland” neutrality option to Ukrainian friends the answer has always been: “But we are a sovereign nation; we’ll do as we please”. Sure, that’s true. But…
When your closest neighbor is such a large and powerful empire as Russia, one must tread carefully. Again, be smart. Be like Finland, be neutral and you’ll be a stable and prosperous nation. Why is this simple concept so difficult for many people to grasp? Part of the answer is because the de facto ruling power in Ukraine are ultra far-right militia that terrorize the country’s leadership. And they’ve found friends in NATO.
This war is already 8-years old
You probably didn’t know that — did you? This Russian-Ukrainian war in fact began in early 2014. Russia is now merely making a massive push to end it, because it’s grown tired of Ukrainian threats.
The most recent threat came on Feb. 19 when Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky, a former career comedian, spoke at the Munich Security Conference and made veiled threats to acquire nuclear weapons. The Kremlin literally went ballistic, and several days later invaded Ukraine. Coincidence? I doubt it.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s first recount the backstory to this horrible war. Putin didn’t wake up on Feb. 24 and spontaneously decided to invade.
First, the two Slavic neighbors have a complicated relationship going back over 500 years, during which most of Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire. As far as this current war, it began 8 years ago, ignited soon after the American-sponsored Maidan revolution in Ukraine in February 2014 that removed a Russian ally from power.
Obama was president at this time, and Joe Biden his vice-president. See the connecting thread?
After taking power, Ukrainian nationalists soon marched eastward to the country’s Donbas region and began bombarding ethnic Russians who resisted the new regime. In 2014/15, an estimated 14,000 ethnic Russians were killed by Ukrainian militia and over a million refugees fled to Russia.
Oh, don’t bother doing a Google search for “ethnic cleansing of Russians in Donbas”. All you’ll get are recent articles that claim to ‘debunk’ those atrocities. Sure, Google would never distort reality and suppress information, right?
The world was silent when Ukraine slaughtered Russians in Donbas. There was no condemnation of Kiev. No economic sanctions against Ukraine. No Facebook solidarity with the ethnic Russians of Donbas.
If the world had spoken out in 2014 against Ukrainian atrocities targeting ethnic Russians, then this war would not be happening today.
Actually, I was surprised that Putin didn’t launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2014, in order to protect ethnic Russians. Instead, the Kremlin only sent in enough military support to stop the slaughter and stabilize the front line. Then, in spring 2014, Moscow annexed Crimea, another predominantly ethnic Russian region. The locals also feared a Ukrainian attack and welcomed the Russians as protectors.
Kissinger warned us
This war could have been avoided if only we had listened to leading U.S. foreign policy experts (such as Kissinger in 2014). He warned not to attempt expanding NATO into Ukraine, precisely fearing that this would incite the Russian Bear to pounce with its full force on the country.
Then there’s University of Chicago professor, John Mearsheimer, one of America’s leading international relations experts, and a member of that dying breed of wise men who had a sober and deep understanding of how the world really works.
For more information about Mearsheimer’s views, and the roots of the Russian-Ukrainian war, please go to his article from 2014 in Foreign Affairs. Or you can easily find his lectures on this topic.
Unfortunately, few in the American ruling elite are listening to our most prominent and educated minds. Why is that? The West is clamoring for war in Ukraine precisely because the West wants war in the Ukraine. It wants to destabilize the region that borders Russia, which of course is considered our archenemy.
And it’s no surprise that this war is happening now under Joe Biden, who of course was Obama’s vice-president. The Democrats have long made it clear that Russia is their main enemy. A country that they hate intensely and want to destroy.
Penis-playing president
These days, videos of the comedian-president Vladimir Zelensky are circulating on social media. One of the most ‘interesting’ is where he plays the piano with his penis. Wow. What a ‘funny’ guy. But sadly, this penis-playing president is leading the world into World War III and the extinction of the human race.
Oddly enough, however, Zelensky was elected in April 2019 on a platform that included better relations with Russia. Many saw his victory as a defeat for the Ukrainian nationalists backing incumbent billionaire President Petro Poroshenko.
But the Ukrainian nationalists and their NATO allies had other plans. They weren’t going to let the democratic process interfere with their plans to see Ukraine absorbed into the western sphere of influence. They dug their claws into Zelensky, and he literally became their actor, their puppet.
There’s so much more to this story, but at this stage, What’s the point of recounting it? Ukraine is bleeding. The country will be destroyed, tens of thousands killed and millions made homeless. Ukraine has been led to perdition by violent nationalists who are in bed with equally psychotic NATO expansionists.
Oh, by the way — What would the U.S. do if Russia or China turned Mexico into a hostile armed nation? You know the answer.
End of Mankind?
Of course, the war in Ukraine is much bigger than Ukraine. Russia has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, more than 6,000 such weapons. Putin has already warned the West not to intervene in Ukraine, or face devastating consequences. He’s not joking. I hope people realize that.
Sadly, I have the impression that western leaders don’t think Putin is serious, which is a recipe for an epic tragedy that could end human civilization.
Every person in the world needs to ask themselves -- are you ready to die and destroy the planet for Ukraine? Or do we come to our senses and reach a peace agreement, leaving Ukraine as a neutral territory between the Atlantic and Eurasian empires?
There’s still time to come to our senses.
ENDS
A well balanced article based on history and facts. Unfortunately most people are influenced by the images that the press portray to them and are emotionally moved and can't look cold-bloodedly at the subject.
